Top 5 contemporary design ideas.

This article is going to look at some great design ideas. We will split this into two parts. Firstly we will take a look at some of the things people on an ‘ordinary’ budget can do to bring modern into their home. Secondly if you have or are not afraid to splash the cash, we will look at some lavish ideas that can really blow the imagination.

Contemporary design ideas

1.Colour

Firstly and quite simply, colour may be the key to all your contemporary design worries.  In the design below you will see how the range of bright and vivid colours automatically gives an impression of modern art and design. This is something fairly easy to achieve in any part (inside or out) of the house with simply a few cans of paint and a bit of inspiration. You will be surprised what a splash of red, yellow or green can actually do. If you are undertaking something like this, we advise you either start small or in a part of the house where it can easily be changed / hidden if you do not like it.

2. Use Glass

The use of glass in styling and modernising spaces, including the home, is becoming more and more popular. This approach which is often seen in modern city centre buildings is becoming more widely seen everywhere.

There are many advantages of using glass to add class to your project. The obvious include adding space to your room and light to the area – these come from the main application as windows. Using glass can also change the style of the room – usually by creating some kind of focal point.

Remember glass can come in many forms and again many colours – it doesn’t have to be just plain, pure, and clear glass. Stained glass is a lovely idea that is not just reserved for churches! Frosted glass also looks nice.

In the examples below the glass partition looks very stylish, while the use of stained glass pieces on the tiling looks very classy.

3. Patterns

Pattern are also a very popular way you can add contemporary style to your room and this does not need to be an expensive option either. Infact whist you might think of pattern as looking modern, it has actually had a big role in art and design for many hundreds of years. Pattern is easy to obtain and can be applied to a variety of things. Here are some examples:

* Wallpaper, Curtains, Carpet, Rugs, Cushions, Furniture, Lampshades…the list really is endless.

4. Pick a Theme

Theming your design can give character to a room, and can allow you to develop different parts of your house or base into anything you may like.  Before you know it the upstairs of your house could be something medieval, while the downstairs resembles a futuristic look. Again a variety of design styles exist. Here are a few to get you thinking:

* Mediterranean, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Rural / Country,  Gothic / ghostly, African…the list really is endless too.
